Amid the coronavirus outbreak across the world, many renowned personalities and world politicians have been tested positive for coronavirus or COVID-19. 

Until now, the international media has reported that more than 1,25,000 cases have been positive for coronavirus and the affected cases have been increasing. 

Among the infected, several high-profile politicians have also been tested positive for the novel coronavirus (or COVID-19) across Europe and other parts of the world. One might wonder the reason behind politicians being affected with coronavirus. 

There are several factors at play – travelling and being in contact with many people more than an average person. Moreover, the politicians around the world tend to be older than the median age, according to a report published in TIME.

Here are a few international personalities and leaders who have been infected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19):


1. Sophie Gregorie Trudeau, wife of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

On Thursday night, Sophie Trudeau was tested positive for the novel coronavirus and has been kept in isolation. Sophie Trudeau on Wednesday night returned from Britain and had symptoms of mild flu.

The media reports have suggested that she was feeling well. However, she would remain in isolation. 

As this happens, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will also be in isolation for 14 days following the advice of doctors and as a precautionary measure. This was informed in a statement released by the office of the Canadian Prime Minister. 


2. UK Health Minister Nadine Dorries

Dorries was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus on Thursday, according to BBC. The Department of Health in the UK informed that Dorries showed the symptoms the same day she attended an event hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. 

The UK Health Minister has self-isolated herself. Labour MP Rachael Maskell has also been asked to do the same as she met Dorries, BBC reported. 

In the UK, media reports suggest that more than six people have been killed due to the coronavirus and approximately 10,000 people may already be infected. 


3. Iraj Harirchi – Iranian Politician

The head of the Iranian counter-coronavirus task force, Iraj Harirchi was diagnosed with coronavirus on February 25 after downplaying the severity of the outbreak.

Since then, more than 20 Iranian lawmakers have been infected and put in isolation. The head of Iran’s crisis management organization, Esmail Najjar has also been placed in isolation after contracting COVID-19.


4. French Culture Minister Franck Riester

Franck Riester was infected with coronavirus (or COVID-19) on March 9. After Riester was tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the culture ministry of France said that the minister had been at the National Assembly where five people were found to have the virus. 


5. Italian Democratic Party leader Nicola Zingaretti

On March 7, Zingaretti posted a video online on Facebook and announced that he has been infected with the coronavirus. Italy has witnessed the highest number of deaths and cases due to coronavirus outside of China.
