Maharashtra records 6,741 fresh cases, State Tally Over 2.67 lakh

Mumbai has recorded 17,442 coronavirus positive cases within a fortnight.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra witnessed 6,741 fresh coronavirus cases taking the total tally of the state to over 2.67 lakh. There have been 213 new deaths and the total death toll has reached 10,695. Mumbai recorded 954 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its total count of coronavirus cases to 95,100. According to the data provided by the state government, within two weeks, Mumbai has recorded 17,442 coronavirus positive cases. The city is estimated to breach the one lakh-mark by this weekend.

The area Kalyan-Dombivali has emerged out as one of the worst hotspots for the virus in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). As of Tuesday, the area registered 13,576 cases and 207 casualties. The MMR accounts for 7,174 deaths of the total 10,695 recorded in the state, as per media reports. 

There has also been a significant increase in Covid-19 cases in the Maharashtra Police Force. The total number of cases reached 6,393 on Tuesday, out of which 82 police persons have passed away due to the deadly virus. 

While there has been a constant increase in the people getting impacted but there are also people who have been able to make a full recovery from the disease. The health department said in a media statement that at least 4,182 people were discharged from hospitals, pushing up the number of recoveries to 1,44,507 in the state. About 6,87,353 people are under home quarantine and 41,660 are in institutional quarantine across the state. 

The lockdown has been extended till July 19 in Thane district as well as Navi Mumbai due to a drastic surge in coronavirus cases. Areas of Pune, Pimpri-Chichwad and rural parts of Pune have also imposed a 10-day complete lockdown since Monday.
