On Thursday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) marked parts of Borivali's IC Colony as containment zone after a 42-year-old resident was tested positive. The individual had returned from the UAE last month.

While the man was tested positive, the civic body was all praises for him. Reason being, he had strictly followed the home quarantine directive after he landed in Mumbai. This was despite not showing any symptoms for days.

The civic staff informed that even before he arrived in Mumbai on March 19, he asked his wife and four-year-old son to move to his mother's residence in the same locality.

A civic official told TOI that from the moment, the patient arrived in Mumbai, he chose to live alone and his family would only visit him only to keep food outside his flat door. The official added that since the man took precautionary measures during his self-quarantine, they did not find any low or high-risk contacts.

As mentioned earlier, he did not have any symptoms on arrival but earlier this week, he developed a cold and cough and got tested. The results arrived on Thursday and he tested positive. Once it was confirmed that he was COVID-19 positive, he was shifted to a suburban hospital.

The authorities said that this was the first case in the locality and since the patient had isolated himself, the virus' spread was prevented.

With an aim to curb the spread of coronavirus, officials from the BMC have sealed some buildings in Mumbai, across several areas, and Mumbai Police has been helping the BMC to seal these 146 containment zones, calling them ‘no-go zones.’

Officials have asked people living in these no-go zones to stop stepping out thereby making sure that the essential goods are supplied. Reports state that these measures will help avoid community spread of the virus, and hence the residential areas and private clinics have been sealed.
