According to  The Time of India, the testing criteria for the coronavirus is likely to be eased in Mumbai. Earlier BMC had announced all citizens above the age of 70 can get a test done for COVID-19 even if they did not have a doctor’s prescription.

Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said that they were looking to add more relaxations so that an incremental number of people can get themselves tested. “We are still working out the details. We are thinking of allowing symptomatic persons to get tested directly by producing a self-declaration. However, it is still being discussed and nothing has been finalized yet.” he said. The authorities had also allowed testing using e- prescription last week.

The coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown has taken a toll on people, specially in terms of their mental health. Even a slight change in their health pattern makes a person think that they may be affected by the coronavirus.

Most countries that have managed to get coronavirus in control have emphasised on the need of aggressive testing. It is extremely critical as it helps in isolating cases and breaking the chain of spread. At this juncture, any sort of relaxation in the testing measures will come across as a huge relief to the people of Mumbai. Relaxation will help people who may not have all the symptoms to get tests done on a timely basis. It will enable the city also to control the spread better.
