Over 11 lakh citizens vaccinated in Navi Mumbai

As many as 91 enters have been set up by the NMMC as per the instructions given by Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar. Efforts are being made to ensure more vaccines are made available to smoothen the process.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination drive is being conducted efficiently across Mumbai and nearby areas. The respective civic bodies have made sure adequate doses of the vaccine is made available for the drive to be held smoothly. Reporting the efforts, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) stated that a total of over 1.5 lakh citizens have been vaccinated with the first dose of COVID vaccine and over 66,000 citizens have been given second dose of vaccine, between August 8 and 25, 2021. 

As many as 91 immunization centers have been set up by the NMMC as per the instructions as per the instructions given by Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar. Directives have been issued to vaccinate and protect as many citizens as possible and keeping this in mind, the concerned departments have been planning daily vaccinations based on availability of vaccines. 

Discussions are being held to  set up more than 100 immunization centers which will help the citizens get vaccinated closer to their homes and will also speed up the immunization once the stock is available.

Data released by the NMMC shows that more than 8.7 lakh citizens have taken the first dose of vaccine across centers and private hospital in the district. Further, 3.4 lakh citizens have taken both doses of vaccines making this a total of over 11 lakh vaccinations in Mumbai. That indicated that more than 76 per cent of citizens have taken the first dose and 28 per cent have taken both doses. 

Reports also show that this rate of vaccination is higher than other large cities and the NMMC is making efforts to vaccinate as many citizens as possible before the third COVID wave hits the city. Care is being taken to ensure the second dose of the vaccine is made available to those who have taken the first dose and have been waiting for the next jab as per the prescribed period. On the other hand, vaccination of citizens above 45 years of age is also being given priority. Officials also organised a special session this month for citizens above 30 years of age as the stock of COVID vaccines was made available for the program.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 Vaccines for children between 12-17 years of age is likely to be begin by October first week. Reports state that over 120 million children between 12 to 17 years of age in India will benefit from this, of which, less than 1 per cent of them may have health problems.

On the other hand, Zydus Cadila's COVID-19 vaccine gets approval in India and experts have confirmed that this has an efficacy rate of 66.6 per cent as per the results seen in a late-stage trial conducted with over 28,000 volunteers in India.
