As the city of Mumbai has been the hotbed for the coronavirus, the COVID-19 task force set up by CM Uddhav Thackeray wants the BMC to scale up tests to at least 20,000 a day.

The COVID-19 task force has also asked the civic body to set up drive-in testing facilities amidst the relaxations of the lockdown norms during the festive season. Moreover, it cautioned against putting the guard down during the festivities adding that being careless could further lead to a rise in cases of coronavirus.

As per reports, the civic body had decided to scale up testing last week to 20,000 tests. In a meeting with the municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal and officials of all 24 wards and assistant commissioners were strictly asked to meet the daily targets.

On the other hand, on Friday, the BMC had issued guidelines amidst the pandemic with regards to festivities stating that for the upcoming Navratri festival, the sarvajanik (community) mandals in the city should arrange online darshan of the idols for the public in view of the outbreak. The Maharashtra government had earlier issued guidelines and capped the height of the goddess Durga idols to four feet for the mandals and two feet for the household ones. Moreover, the civic body has asked the mandals to sanitise the pandals properly and strictly follow all the social distancing norms.
