In recent developments, Mumbai-based doctors reject the Serum Institute’s vaccine for the coronavirus, Covishield and instead took shots of Covaxin instead at the JJ Hospital in the city.

According to reports, eight doctors have rejected Covishield. Moreover, authorities from the hospital who have struggled to persuade potential recipients to accept Covaxin were surprised by the incident.

In addition, the authorities are now to permit voluntary walk-ins for the Bharat Biotech-manufactured vaccine so long as names are registered on the Co-Win app which is used to monitor the immunisation programme. However, this is not for those who have been allotted Covaxin but want to receive Covishield instead.

Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, January 22, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) became the first airport in the country to export the Covishield vaccine to international destinations. According to sources, CSMIA has initiated the international shipment of the vaccine to Brazil and Morocco.

On the other hand, so far, a total of 9,105 health workers have taken the COVID-19 vaccine shots in Maharashtra's Thane district since the launch of the immunisation drive on January 16. On Saturday, 2,366 health workers, or 102.87 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries, were administered the vaccine at 23 centres in Thane, district health officer Dr Manish Renge informed. Moreover, so far, 9,105 health workers, or 79.17 per cent of the registered beneficiaries, have been given the vaccine doses in the district since the launch of the drive.
