The state government of Maharashtra has been taking necessary measures to vaccinate the citizens across the state, however, the stock available is insufficient to continue the vaccination drive on a daily basis. Over the last few months, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had shut down vaccination centres for a few days, several times, owing to the issue of unavailability of vaccines.

Following the same, the civic body, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, announced that  a total of 315 public vaccination centres will be closed across the city on Thursday and Friday, i.e., August 19 and 20, 2021, respectively, due to the same concerns.

A statement was released by the BMC which said that the vaccination will be closed on Thursday, August 19, and on Friday, August 20, 2021, across centres operated by the government and municipal corporation. This was being implemented due to insufficient vaccine available, however, the administration is expecting to receive a new stock late in the night on August 19, 2021, post which the centres would reopen. On the other hand, citizens can get vaccinated at private hospitals, which will administer vaccines as scheduled.

Officials also took to Twitter to share the message that said, The vaccination process will begin again on Aug 21, 2021 as we receive supply of vaccines. We apologize for the inconvenience caused."

Earlier, the municipal corporation had planned to resume the vaccination during the second half on Friday, but the same was changed as crowding has been reported across the centres on a regular basis, under such scenario.

So far over, 8.2 million vaccines have been administered since January 16, 2021, and more than 85,000 Mumbaikars received vaccines on Wednesday. Below-mentioned was the COVID-19 tally shared by the BMC, as of August 18, 2021.
