As the Maharashtra Government prepares for the third wave of the coronavirus, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte held a review meeting with District Collectors and asked them to chart out a detailed medical oxygen management plan. Kunte directed the officials to complete works on the same by July.

As per the plan proposed by the State, a region or area that witnessed the highest cases during the second COVID-19 wave should prepare for at least three times the oxygen required back then.

Individual districts have also been asked to maintain enough storage capacity for the oxygen while also ensuring smooth transportation of oxygen by assigning the necessary vehicles. All these works, including the acquisition and augmentation of oxygen, has a completion deadline of July.

The Union Government has ramped up its vaccination drive which experts believe could help soften the blow of a potential third wave of the deadly virus.

In related news, emerging reports indicate that Cipla has received approval to import Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to India. While an official confirmation is awaited, this will no doubt bolster the country’s vaccination efforts.

United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that the Moderna vaccine is 94.1 per cent effective in “preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection in people who received two doses and had no evidence of being previously infected.”
