Four deaths reported at different Navratri events across Mumbai

As per reports, the deceased suffered cardiac arrests while performing at the garba events organised across differnet parts of the city.

Lakhs of people across the city of Mumbai have been enjoying the much-awaited Navratri festival after a gap of two years. The Government of Maharashtra, in 2020 and 2021, had not permitted associations to conduct the Navratri festivities in the city due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the related threats involved with the infection. However, it is after 2019, the citizens are today enjoying the festival of garba and dandiya across different parts of Mumbai.

While the festival is full of zeal and enthusiasm, a few enthusiasts from Mumbai unfortunately lost their lives at the events. As per reports, a total of three deaths have been reported so far from the city of Mumbai that and this has made people alert with regards to their health.

Reports published on Monday, October 3, 2022, stated that a 35-year-old resident from Virar area suffered a heart attack at the Garba event in the city. He was rushed to the hospital by his father. Manish Jain who suffered the heart attack complained of feeling uneasy and also started vomiting, looking at which, his father Narpat rushed him to the Sanjeevani Hospital in Virar. However, Manish collapsed while reaching the hospital and on seeing him in that state, his father Narpat also collapsed. The hospital staff brought both the patients inside for treatment, however, they were declared dead.

The police informed that the post-mortem examination confirmed that neither the father, not the son had any history of the heart disease. But they suffered the heart failure which led to death.

Manish Jain was married just four months back and was a jewellery designer in Virar. His father Narpat hundred died from service, was also the head of the local Jain community association in Virar.

Meanwhile, another 26-year=old accountant from Mumbai's Mulund area collapsed during the Navratri festivities in the city. Identified as Rushabh Bhanushali, the young lad was a resident of Dombivli and was attending the festivities with his family members at Mulund. He was the only son of his parents and worked at a fire private firm in Borivali.

His family raised questions with regards to the lack of arrangements for emergency cases at these locations. His uncle mentioned of seeking help from the organisers at work, however, none came forward and no announcements were made despite several requests. On the other hand, no doctor was available for immediate treatment as well. His uncle also mentioned that his body was sent for post-mortem without family’s knowledge.

In another incident, a 59-year-old resident from Kandivali also suffered a heart attack at one of the events held in the city.  His family members refused to comment with regards to the same. However, BJP leader, Kirit Somaiya, mentioned that the man collapsed after dancing.

Considering these cases, experts from different parts of the city have raised questions with regards to the health causes of these deaths and have mentioned that sudden stretches and over activity that is beyond body’s capacity could lead to cardiac arrest in some cases.
