Thane: Free food facility for relatives in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital

The Thane civic body run hospital will be providing free food to the relatives of the patients. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has recently started this initiative in association with Akshay Chaitanya Sanstha and Reliance Foundation at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, Kalwa.

Free food timings
Initially this facility was made available from 12 noon to 2:00 pm but after estimating the response it will be made available in the evening as well. The TMC commissioner Abhijit Bangar said that there is a plan to provide food during 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm also. At present, an average of 150 to 200 relatives are benefiting from this scheme.



Food will be served in the vicinity of the hospital 

Patients come from all over to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. Not everyone has enough manpower. Therefore, the relative undergoes a lot of stress. In this case, relatives also struggle with food. Akshaya Chaitanya Sanstha took the initiative to find a way out of it. Meals are prepared in a central kitchen in Byculla. Then it is transported to the respective place in a big container. The TMC has given them space to provide food on the ground floor of the night shelter building in the hospital area.


Free meals

The usual meals include rice, dal and vegetables. It also includes sweets on holidays or festivals. The volunteers of the organisation take care that the food does not go to waste.

Relatives who accompany patients are full of anxiety. Meals for patients are provided by the hospital. However, relatives have the option to bring food from home or eat outside. To ease their stress, a free food facility has been made available. Apart from that, Medical Superintendent Anirudh Malgaonkar informed that the hospital administration has provided them night shelter and access to toilets as well.


Library for relatives to open soon
The TMC Commissioner has decided to start a free library for patients and relatives including doctors, nurses, wardboys. It is being processed and soon this facility will be made available.
