The government is making efforts at many levels to ensure timely diagnosis of cancer. Since the patients are treated in primary health centres after experiencing the primary symptoms of cancer, there are many difficulties in diagnosing the disease in time. By the time the patient reaches a major hospital, his disease is in its final stages. Therefore, cancer experts have expressed the opinion that there is a need to empower primary health centres in the country for timely diagnosis.
Cancer can be completely cured, but it needs to be diagnosed on time. Early detection of cancer is essential to prevent it. Dr. Anil D'Cruz, former director of Tata Hospital, said while talking to Loksatta that there is a possibility of curing the disease as early as three to four weeks when cancer is detected at the primary level.
Cancer Care Center
There are about 200 types of rare cancers. Six out of one lakh cancer patients develop this type of cancer. It mainly includes various types of cancers like sarcoma, skin cancer, pregnancy cancer, hereditary cancer, neuroendocrine tumours. If cancers are diagnosed at an early stage, it is easier to treat patients and cure them. Senior oncologist Dr Jyoti Vajpayee said that the European Society of Medical Oncology is thinking of starting more cancer care centres in Europe and Asia to treat these rare cancers.
