US drug marker, Moderna’s COVID-19 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine is expected to arrive in the country this week post the completion of the official formalities, claim sources. After receiving it, it is said to be distributed at government hospitals.

The claim by the sources comes in the midst of Indian drug regulators permitting Cipla to import donated doses of Moderna from the USA, last week. After the central government receives it, it will be made available at select hospitals.

The spokesperson of the GAVI alliance has mentioned that on behalf of COVAX, GAVI is working with the US government and partners to enforce donations for doses. This is undertaken so that countries can vaccinate their at-risk population promptly. Further details, on volumes and timelines, will be brought to light in a timely manner.

According to a press release, over 2.01 cr balance and unused vaccines are available with states, union territories and hospitals.

The vaccine delivery in the country has witnessed major alterations with the latest development being the universalization of covid vaccine on 21st July’21. Herein the central government procures and supplies 75% of the vaccines produced to the states and union territories for free.
