In a sense of respite, India has reported its lowest tally of new COVID cases of 34703 in the last 24 hours, its lowest in 111 days. This is coupled with a spike in recovery rate at 97.17%, with current active cases standing at 464357 which is the lowest in 101 days. Active cases currently comprise 1.52% of total cases. According to the ministry, the daily recoveries continue to outweigh the daily new cases registered for the consecutive 54th day.
The top 5 states that have registered the maximum number of cases are Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha. These states reported 8037, 6740, 3715, 2848 and 2803 cases, respectively. These 5 states cumulatively account for 69.58% of the total new cases in the nation. Other than this, Kerala is solely responsible for 23.16% of new cases. Maharashtra logged 51 deaths, with active cases at 116827, new cases at 6740 and recoveries at 13027 on 5th July'21.
In order to battle a possible third wave, the country is conducting its vaccination drive on a war footing. During which 35.75 cr vaccine doses were administered nationally so far. This news also comes at the backdrop of Germany lifting its travel ban for Indian travellers.
