Kalyan-Dombivli reports 20 new cases of COVID-19

In Mumbai, Maharashtra, Kalyan-Dombivli reported 20 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday which included 2 deaths, bringing the total number of cases in the area to 385 which includes seven deaths. Of the 385 cases in the region, 248 patients are currently under treatment, 130 have recovered and been discharged.

According to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), five of the 20 new cases are from Dombivli east, three from Dombivli west, six from Kalyan east, two are from Kalyan west, one from Ambivli, one from Titwala, whereas two deaths have been reported. Apart from adopting containment and sanitisation measures, the KDMC health department is tracing contacts and has embarked on a door to door survey in Kalyan and Dombivli.

The vehicular movement to and from the area has been completely stopped and police have been deployed at all access points. Strict, aggressive measures have been put in place to prevent people from leaving their homes unnecessarily to loiter around. So far, Maharashtra has recorded a total of 25,912 cases with 15,747 cases reported in Mumbai itself.

The WHO official recently spoke on the development of the COVID-19 vaccine stating that there is a chance to eliminate the virus, but a highly effective vaccine will have to be developed and made available to all. Without a vaccine, he opined that it could take years for the global population to build up sufficient levels of immunity.

According to the WHO, so far, a total of 4,170,424 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported across the globe, including 287,399 fatalities. WHO had declared coronavirus a pandemic on March 11, and it has been providing daily situation report on the infection since January 21. As the world tries to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, India has been trying to fight with virus staying at home in an extended lockdown to contain the spread of the contagious disease.
