What is a heart attack?

A heart attack is a loss of blood flow through the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle, causing the muscle cells in the affected area to die. Since it happens all of a sudden, it has got the word 'shock'. If most of the heart muscle fails, the heart may stop beating and the patient may become dehydrated.

The heart can stop beating even if it stops supplying oxygen to the heart muscle through the bloodstream for a while. Therefore, even if the heart stops beating for two-three minutes, the brain can stop working and lead to death.
