According to the Public Health Department of Maharashtra, the number of COVID-19 cases has touched the 5,000-mark in the Kolhapur district as of July 21. While the data provided by the health department suggests that Kolhapur city alone has 2,122 positive cases in total, the number of cases in the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has reached 291. It is followed by the Ratnagiri district which has a total of 1,273 cases. The district of Sangli has recorded 695 cases and the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation has reported 331 cases. The region of Sindhudurg has witnessed 288 coronavirus cases in total.

The data further suggests that as of July 21, a total of 117 patients have succumbed to the deadly infection in the Kolhapur Division. The highest number of casualties have been registered in Ratnagiri with a total of 42 deaths, which is followed by Kolhapur city with 32 fatalities in total. Sangli has recorded 23 deaths and the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation has registered 10 deaths. Both Sindhudurg and the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation have recorded five deaths each.

On Monday, a week-long lockdown was imposed in Kolhapur city in order to curb the spread of the virus. All shops and stores have been ordered to remain shut except for medical emergencies and essential services like medical stores, dairy shops.

Maharashtra has recorded 8,369 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 3,27,031, including 1,32,236 active cases, according to the state health department. With 246 new deaths, the state has seen 12,276 fatalities so far due to the deadly virus. Meanwhile, Mumbai has reached a tally of 1,03,262 coronavirus cases along with 5,814 deaths in total.
