On Monday, February 1, Maharashtra recorded 1,948 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,28,347. Currently, there are 43,701 active cases in the state. With 3,289 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,32,294.

More than 27 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,109. While 1,92,382 persons are under home quarantine, 2,152 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.26 per cent, and 2.52 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 328 new COVID-19 cases, 460 recoveries and eight deaths on Monday, February 1, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,09,297. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,656 active cases and 2,91,373 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,359 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 28,15,467 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 192 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,022 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 8,635 new cases, 13,423 recoveries and 94 deaths taking the tally up to 1,07,66,245 on Monday, February 1. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,04,48,406 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,54,486 in the country. At present, there are 1,63,353 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,77,52,057 samples have been tested up to February 1. So far, 39,50,156 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
