In order to ensure quality treatment for cancer patients in the state, a comprehensive cancer services policy has been formulated. For this purpose, the Maharashtra Cancer Care, Research and Education Foundation (Mahacare Foundation) has been established. Through this foundation, specialised cancer treatment will be provided across 18 hospitals in the state. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. As a result, the number of cancer-related day-care centers in the state is expected to increase significantly.
According to this policy, cancer hospitals have been structured into three tiers — L-1, L-2, and L-3. These centers will provide a wide range of services, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, postgraduate and super-specialty education, diagnosis of all types of cancer, surgeries, physiotherapy, psychological support and therapy, research, palliative care, availability of medications, and public awareness activities.
