Coronavirus cases across Maharashtra have been on a rise and as per reports, several children are being affected in the state. Keeping this in mind, the state government has decided to form a task force with pediatricians and the same will be implemented keeping the third COVID-19 wave in mind.

Information regarding the same was shared by State Health Minister Rajesh Tope while interacting with media. He said that the experts have warned the governments about the third wave of COVID-19 infection, and considering the same, Maharashtra government has taken steps to contain the spread. The proposed task force of pediatricians will be able to offer immediate treatment if the virus affects the children. Besides this, the government is also planning to increase the number of hospital beds, ventilators for children, beds in NICU and other healthcare facilities. 

Expediting the process, the Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, also interacted with a group of pediatricians on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has also administered several citizens in the state and leads in vaccination. Though the vaccination drive has not progressed as fast as it should, officials are working towards making sure enough vaccine available for citizens between the ages of 18 and 44. 

Sharing more information, Rajesh Tope said that the matter will be discussed with the Chief Minister about administering the same on priority to the above-mentioned age groups. Negotiations are underway with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) for the availability of Russian Sputnik vaccine in Maharashtra.

The requirement for Oxygen concentrator has also been raised and the officials will be procuring them through global tender. A committee of three doctors has been appointed to look into the technical aspects of the device. 

Besides this, work orders have been issued for import of three lakh Remdesivir injections with the approval of DCGI.
