Maharashtra records 2,779 new COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths

2,779 new COVID-19 cases were found in Maharashtra taking the caseload up to 20,03,657 while 50 people have lost their lives.

On Friday, January 22, Maharashtra recorded 2,779 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,03,657. Currently, there are 44,926 active cases in the state. With 3,419 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,06,827.

More than 50 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 50,684. While 2,13,414 persons are under home quarantine, 2,019 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.17 per cent, and 2.53 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 482 new COVID-19 cases, 697 recoveries and nine deaths on Friday, January 22, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,05,131. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 6,442 active cases and 28,65,07 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,285 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 26,73,341 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 165 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,216 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 14,256 new cases, 17,130 recoveries and 152 deaths taking the tally up to 1,06,39,684 on Friday, January 22. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 10,300,838 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,53,184 in the country. At present, there are 1,85,662 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,09,85,119 samples have been tested up to January 22. So far, 13,90,592 health workers have been vaccinated in the country.
