On Tuesday, February 16, Maharashtra recorded 3,663 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,71,306. Currently, there are 37,125 active cases in the state. With 2,700 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,81,408.

More than 39 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,591. While 1,82,970 persons are under home quarantine, 1,726 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.66 per cent, and 2.49 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 461 new COVID-19 cases, 340 recoveries and three deaths on Tuesday, February 16, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,15,030. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,649 active cases and 2,97,101 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 5,649 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 30,39,461 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 76 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 810 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 11,610 new cases, 11,833 recoveries and 100 deaths taking the tally up to 1,09,37,320 on Tuesday, February 16. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,06,44,858 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,55,913 in the country. At present, there are 1,36,549 active cases. According to the ICMR, 20,79,77,229 samples have been tested up to February 16. So far, 89,99,230 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
