Omicron Scare: Maharashtra Reports 68 Cases, 40 Were From Mumbai

Based on civic officials, of the cases reported in Mumbai, 13 are international travellers. Out of these, eight are not residents of the island city.

On Monday, January 3, Maharashtra reported 68 new cases of the Omicron variant. With this, the aggregate number of the highly transmissible COVID-19 variant is 578 in the state, reports cited. From the new cases, 40 were from Mumbai, 14 from Pune city and 14 from Nagpur

Additionally, from the cumulative, 45 per cent that is 259 have been discharged. According to data from the state, from the 2,699 samples sequenced since December 1, nearly 21.4 per cent have tested positive for the Omicron variant. Officials have also been quoted by several narratives elaborating on how the majority of the Omicron cases are mild or asymptomatic. 

Based on civic officials, of the cases reported in Mumbai, 13 are international travellers. Out of these, eight are not residents of the island city. On the other hand, other 14 travellers were detected during community surveillance. Moreover, nearly 115 contacts were traced all of whom tested negative. 

Civic officials have further added that of the 157 international travellers who tested positive for Omicron in Mumbai, 151 have been discharged. Similarly, none of them had severe disease.

Likewise, the four cases reported in Nagpur entails a six-year-old boy who travelled to Uganda and Dubai along with his family and landed in Mumbai last month.
