On Monday, January 3, the Greater Mumbai Area reported 8082 new COVID-19 cases, according to the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Of these 90 per cent which is 7273 patients were asymptomatic. On the other hand, 574 patients were hospitalized today of which 71 are on oxygen. 

Presently, 3735 beds are occupied from the aggregate 3,0565 which stands at 12.2 per cent. Similarly, 622 patients were subsequently discharged today. With this, the total number of active patients in the city stands at 3,7274. 

On a positive note, only two fatalities were reported owing to coronavirus. All two patients had comorbidities and were above the age of 60. While one was male, the other was female. The total number of tests done is 49283.

Based on the data, the recovery rate of the island city is 93 per cent and the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai from December 27 to January 2 is 0.50 per cent. Likewise, the doubling rate now stands at 138 days. 

Additionally, according to the containment measures undertaken on January 2, there are 11 active containment zones in Mumbai. While the number of active sealed buildings in the city is 318. 

On Monday, Mumbai also commenced its vaccination drive to inoculate those between the age group of 15-18 against COVID-19.
