According to the latest reports, in the past 24 hours, an aggregate of five patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Mumbai lost their lives. This is reported to be the foremost single-day fatalities registered since February 7, during which the city saw five deaths from the 356 logged cases. 

Based on accounts, from the five fatalities, four were over the age of 70 with comorbidities. The data furnished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) brings to light that the male patient (70) who succumbed had diabetes mellitus and hypertension. In addition to this, the other two male patients (91) (94) suffered from heart ailments. On the other hand, two others, a female (43) and a male (88) suffered from hypertension and chronic kidney disease.  

Narratives suggest that in Mumbai, five more patients were diagnosed with the new variant of Omicron. In the city, three patients of BA.5 and two of BA.4 have been found. These samples for genome sequencing were collected between June 10 and 20.

On Sunday, June 26, Mumbai logged an aggregate of 2,771 new coronavirus cases. This is stated to be the highest single-day number registered since January. Owing to these updates in numbers, the aggregate tally of the novel virus has risen to 11,07,371.

Similarly, on Sunday, Maharashtra registered a total of 6,493 COVID-19 cases that entailed a backlog from Saturday. The daily bulletin of the public health department elaborated on how on Saturday owing to a technical issue on the ICMR portal, the daily COVID-19 data could not be downloaded. Therefore, those cases have been added to Sunday's numbers. Thus, on Sunday, the state recorded higher than actual numbers.

Moreover, India reported 17,073 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths. With this, the active caseload stands at 94,420.
