Mumbai tops in vaccinating 33.8% of people with the first dose in the 18-44 age group in Maharashtra. In June, the Maharashtra government received 59 lakhs doses, which comprised 49.8 lakhs Covishield and over 9 lakhs Covaxin doses.

The BMC received restricted supplies of the 39.02 lakh people in the 45+ age group, of which 22 lakh, 57.2% were vaccinated with the first jab. Till July 3rd, in the 18-44 age group of 57.7 lakh population, 19.5 lakh (33.8%) were immunized at least through the first dose.

About 50% of the vaccination in Mumbai is conducted by the private sector which managed to get its hands on more supplies. Since the private sector plays a pivotal role in vaccinating the citizens, especially those in the 18-44 age group, urban areas such as those of Mumbai, Pune, Thane reported the highest coverage. This nuance can also be attributed to the private sector’s ability to procure a larger number of doses.

In the 18-44 age group, districts that follow Mumbai in immunizing their population are Pune, Thane, Bhandara and Gondia at 28.1%, 14.6%, 14.2% and 13.8% respectively. In the same age group, regions that are on the lower end of the spectrum include Kolhapur, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Buldhana and Amravati. Similarly, in the 45+ age group, areas that registered the lowest coverage are Hingoli, Nanded, Palghar, Solapur and Aurangabad.

In other developments, Mumbai last received 90000 doses on Monday which is expected to be exhausted by Wednesday.
