Mumbai continues to report new COVID-19 cases above the 1,000-mark

Mumbai reported 1,173 new COVID-19 cases, 1,151 recoveries and three deaths on Friday, March 5, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,31,016. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 10,469 active cases and 3,08,178 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,490 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 33,72,926 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 15 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 188 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Friday, March 5, Maharashtra recorded 10,216 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,98,399. Currently, there are 88,838 active cases in the state. With 6,467 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,55,951.

More than 53 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,393. While 4,10,411 persons are under home quarantine, 4,203 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 93.52 per cent, and 2.38 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 18,327 new cases, 14,234 recoveries and 108 deaths taking the tally up to 1,11,92,088 on Friday, March 5. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,08,54,128 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,57,656 in the country. At present, there are 1,80,304 active cases. So far, 1,94,97,704 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
