According to a data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s public health department, active coronavirus cases in Mumbai have increased by 35 per cent in the past 10 days. However, in a major relief, hospitalisations haven’t seen any concerning rise.

Moreover, it has come to light that the city has been clocking an average of 100 new cases daily for the past eight days. Meanwhile, daily admissions to COVID dedicated hospitals have been in the range of two to five. Currently, only 25 of the city’s 25,249 COVID-19 beds are occupied.

On Tuesday, May 10, Maharashtra reported 223 fresh cases including Mumbai 122 cases and zero deaths.

Meanwhile, the active cases have now reached 1,403 with Mumbai leading at 844, followed by Pune at 292 and Thane with 153.

The city had 628 active cases at the beginning of the month which has steadily, which is now increased to 844.

Besides, amid rising cases across Maharashtra and anticipated fourth wave, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday, May 10, warned that there are very high chances that daily infection rate of coronavirus will once again surge in June and July.

However, in April, over half of Maharashtra's new COVID-19 cases have been recorded from Mumbai. In light of this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked civic officials to augment daily testing, and contact tracing as well as keep an eye on their concerned administrative wards.

Similarly, Maharashtra chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray, last month urged citizens to wear face masks when outdoors. He believes that requisite precautions were necessary to curtail a possible fourth wave of COVID-19.
