Cases of doctors committing suicide due to mental stress while pursuing medical education are happening frequently. Nair Hospital of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken the initiative to prevent these incidents of suicide. Nair Hospital has undertaken 'Shruti' initiative to understand the difficulties and problems of doctors, to empower them mentally through counselling.

Students from all over the country come to Mumbai to pursue postgraduate medical education. They have to stay away from home for three and a half years for this education. In that case, academic stress, the surrounding environment, and hostel conditions create fear in the mind of doctors. A mental conflict begins in confusion. Due to this, they start acting under mental stress. Being away from home, the question arises in front of them as to whom they should express their feelings.

It is clear from many cases that the feeling of insecurity in their mind becomes stronger, resulting in suicide of students. Keeping this matter in mind, Nair Hospital has taken up the initiative 'Shruti' to remove the fear and mental conflict in the minds of the students. This initiative has been jointly launched by the Janaushadh Vaidyashastra, Department of Psychiatry and MARD. Under this initiative, awareness is being created among the students about mental health, which is benefiting the doctors.

This is how doctors are given guidance
Psychiatrists interact with doctors who are depressed due to mental stress. Trust is created in them in such a way that they can open their minds. After realising their problem, they are helped out of depression by proper counselling and guidance. So far, more than 200 doctors who are taking post-graduate education in the hospital have been guided under 'Shruti', according to Dr. Nair hospital founder Sudhir Medhekar.
