Mumbai registers 483 new COVID-19 cases; eight deaths

483 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were found in Mumbai taking the caseload up to 3,08,969 while eight people have lost their lives.

Mumbai reported 483 new COVID-19 cases, 244 recoveries and eight deaths on Sunday, January 31, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,08,969. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,797 active cases and 2,90,913 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,351 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 28,04,281 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 199 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,086 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Sunday, January 31, Maharashtra recorded 2,585 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,26,399. Currently, there are 45,071 active cases in the state. With 1,670 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,29,005.

More than 40 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,082. While 1,90,232 persons are under home quarantine, 2,294 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.19 per cent, and 2.52 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 11,427 new cases, 11,858 recoveries and 118 deaths taking the tally up to 1,07,57,610 on Sunday, January 31. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,07,57,610 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,54,392 in the country. At present, there are 1,68,235 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,70,92,635 samples have been tested up to January 31. So far, 37,58,843 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
