Mumbai reported 596 new COVID-19 cases, 377 recoveries and 11 deaths on Friday, December 25, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 2,89,800. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 8,218 active cases and 8,218 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,056 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 22,80,668 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 302 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,783 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Friday, December 25, Maharashtra recorded 3,431 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,13,382. Currently, there are 56,823 active cases in the state. With 1,427 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,06,298.

Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus, 49,129 people in the state have lost their lives to the contagious disease, while 4,77,528 persons are under home quarantine, 3,695 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.04 per cent, and 2.57 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 22,272 new cases, 22,274 recoveries and 251 deaths taking the tally up to 1,01,69,118 on Friday, December 25. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 97,40,108 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,47,343 in the country. At present, there are 2,81,667 active cases. According to the ICMR, 16,71,59,289 samples have been tested up to December 25.
