Mumbai records lowest single-day Covid-19 deaths since March

Mumbai recorded only three deaths which are lowest for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020.

On Sunday, Mumbai recorded three deaths due to Covid-19. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), this is the lowest single-day fatalities since March 2020 for the city.

"I congratulate the eminent citizens of Mumbai for their outstanding cooperation and support. A big salute to all the doctors & supporting frontline workers and the media who created great positive awareness which has made this possible," Chahal stated. 

Mumbai reported 581 new COVID-19 cases, 697 recoveries and three deaths on Sunday, January 3, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 2,95,240. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 7,771 active cases and 27,54,64 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,135 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 23,93,590 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 221 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,090 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Sunday, January 3, Maharashtra recorded 3,282 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,42,136. Currently, there are 54,317 active cases in the state. With 2,064 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,36,999.

35 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 49,666. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.59 per cent, and 2.56 per cent respectively. With 68,061 new tests, the total number of samples tested for coronavirus in Maharashtra has gone up to 1,29,58,502.

Meanwhile, India reported 16,505 new cases, 19,557 recoveries and 214 deaths taking the tally up to 1,03,40,470 on Sunday, January 3. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 99,46,867 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,49,649 in the country. At present, there are 2,43,953 active cases. According to the ICMR, 17,56,35,761 samples have been tested up to January 3.
