As the coronavirus cases surge in the city, Mumbai is once again placed among the top five districts in Maharashtra with the most active cases.

According to reports, the weekly positivity rate in Maharashtra has climbed to 2.71 per cent in the last week as against 2.58 per cent during the last week of August.

It was observed that COVID-19 cases in Mumbai were recorded between 200 and 300 in the first three weeks of August.

In a virtual conference meeting on COVID-19, the Health Department said that there has been a slight increase in active cases in the state in the last 10 days.

The top five districts account for nearly 72 per cent of the state’s total active cases, the data showed. Accounting for nearly 30% of the load, Pune topped the list, followed by Thane (14%), Satara (12%), Ahmednagar (10%), and Mumbai (8%).

Meanwhile, eight districts in the state have reported a higher weekly positivity rate than the state's average. These are Pune, Ahmednagar, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Osmanabad, and Nashik.

Maharashtra reported 4,057 coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, September 5, which took the state’s infection tally to 64,86,174, while the death of 67 patients pushed the toll to 1,37,774, the health department said.
