According to BMC’s latest reports, the number of covid cases reported in the city witnessed a surge to 664 on Wednesday when it was 453 on Tuesday. Moreover, the city’s covid test positivity rate (TPR) jumped past 2% after nearly a week. The TPR that was below 2% on 28th June was at 1.48% on Tuesday, rose to 2.07% on Wednesday.

The city can, however, have a sense of respite as the daily covid fatalities witnessed a downward trend to a single digit again. The last time Mumbai reported single-digit daily fatalities was on 8th June. According to the recent report of 7th July’21, Mumbai lost 9 lives due to the virus of which 4 had comorbidities, 1 was between the 40-59 age group, and 8 were senior citizens. In other positive news, the doubling rate has also improved to 844 days on Wednesday. However, the recovery rate of the infections stood constant at 96%. 744 more patients were also discharged in the city.

Fresh cases in the MMR region, on the other hand, rose to 2263 from 1564 in 24 hours, including those reported in the city. The highest cases after Mumbai were reported in Kalyan-Dombivali and Raigad at 208 and 544 respectively. Thane, Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar also reported, 151, 157 and 93 cases respectively.

If one is to shift towards the bigger picture in Maharashtra, the number of new cases rose from 8418 to 9558 in a day, but the number of casualties dropped to 147. The state’s case-fatality rate rose slightly to 2.2% but a total of 8899 patients recovered and were discharged on Wednesday. Maharashtra has currently, 1.14 lakh active cases.
