Amid COVID-19 cases surge across the state, the centre has warned the Maharashtra government over the second wave of COVID-19. Ever since the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020 Nagpur records the highest spike with 2,587 new cases taking the tally up to 2,60,633. At present, there are 18,980 active cases in Nagpur district, which is the second-highest after Pune. Despite being the third day of lockdown in Nagpur people gathered at markets to purchase vegetables.         

On Tuesday, March 16 with the centre’s directive Nagpur municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B has increased contact tracing and testing to 20-30 persons per patients. The commissioner has personally visited the houses of the patients to check if he is in home isolation.

Pune district reported 3,574 new COVID-19 cases, 1,577 recoveries and 12 deaths on Tuesday, March 16, taking the total number of cases up to 4,43,822. At present, there are 24,204 active cases while 4,10,347 patients have recovered so far. The death toll in Pune is at 9,440.

On Tuesday, March 16, Maharashtra recorded 17,864 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 23,47,328. Currently, there are 1,38,813 active cases in the state. With 9,510 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 21,54,253.

More than 87 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,996. While 6,52,531 persons are under home quarantine, 6,067 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 91.77 per cent, and 2.26 per cent respectively.
