Navi Mumbai reports highest COVID-19 cases since last year

On Sunday, March 21, Navi Mumbai clocked its highest single-day surge in cases of coronavirus since September 30, 2020 with 416 new cases.

In the last 24 hours, as the area of Navi Mumbai reported 416 fresh cases of the coronavirus, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has opened a COVID-19 jumbo vaccination centre with 15 booths in Turbhe.

On Sunday, March 21, Navi Mumbai clocked its highest single-day surge in cases of coronavirus since September 30, 2020. With 416 new cases, the civic body of Navi Mumbai has now reported a total of 59,616 cases since March 11, 2020, when the first case of the novel coronavirus was reported in the city

According to reports, there are 37 vaccination centres in Navi Mumbai, of which 22 are government-run and 15 are privately run. Moreover, three of the government-run centres at Vashi, Airoli and Nerul hospitals are functional 24x7. Till Sunday, 67,273 people had received the vaccination.

On the other hand, as Maharashtra earlier recorded a maximum number of vaccinations at 2.67 lakh on March 15, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on March 16, urged the Centre to provide 2.2 crore vaccine doses with a supply of at least 20 lakhs each week. Tope, who was in New Delhi, had placed this demand before Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Speaking about the same, Tope stated that the COVID-19 vaccination campaign is being implemented on a large scale successfully in the state. In view of the situation, health workers, emergency service providers as well as all those above 60 years of age are being vaccinated. Citizens over the age of 45 years and who have underlying health conditions too are getting the jab.
