Nesco is all geared up to be a major treatment centre for the coronavirus in the suburbs. Nesco, known for holding some of the grandest exhibitions, plans to multiply its capacity to host the patients suffering from COVID-19.

On Wednesday, 821 beds are touted to get operational in addition to the first lot of 285 commissioned beds. Nesco ultimately plans to make it a 3,000-bed facility which would end up making it one of the biggest field hospitals in the world. The Nesco compound further witnessed crowds on Tuesday as doctors, nurses and health workers, walked in for interviews. The Dean, Doctor Neelam Andrade has been recruiting people on spot to work in the care centre. Andrade was previously the Dean of the Nair dental college and had been working on Nesco for weeks to make it a space suitable for the COVID-19 patients.

Mumbai, the financial capital of India has been the epicentre of the nation’s coronavirus outbreak. Therefore, the city has been converting many of its iconic buildings into quarantine facilities in order to accommodate the surge in the number of coronavirus cases. Along with building a new hospital just a short walk away from the US Consulate building to curating quarantine centres in nature parks and planetariums, Mumbai has been making ongoing efforts to provide effective healthcare for the adequate number of people.

The National Sports Club of India which was built in 1950 after India gained independence, has been turned into a 600-bed quarantine facility. The iconic heritage structure and its dome-shaped auditorium have held TEDx talks, Broadway-like musicals and music concerts in the past. It has now been converted into an observation facility with 30 Intensive Care Unit portable beds. The Mahim Nature Park has also been transformed into a quarantine centre for high-risk contacts of the patients in Dharavi.
