Doubling rate of coronavirus cases increases in Mulund, Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Dahisar

Though the number of cases are less in some wards of Mumbai, officials are concerned about the doubling rate of coronavirus cases which have increased exponentially in the month of May 2020.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are working towards reducing the doubling rate of coronavirus, across the city. However, the number of cases in areas like Mulund, Ghatkopar and Bhandup have increased over the last number of days. These areas earlier had a limited number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patient, but over the last few days, the cases have increased, states the report. 

As of May 18, 2020, areas like Dahisar (160 cases), Sandhurst Road (281 cases), Mulund (308 cases), Goregaon (406 cases), Bhandup (555 cases) and Ghatkopar (572 cases) observed less number of cases. However, officials are concerned about the doubling rate, as the cases have been increasing exponentially. For areas like Mulund and Ghatkopar, the doubling rate is at seven days; while it is eight days in Bhandup and nine days in Dahisar, Sandhurst Road and Goregaon.

On the other hand, other areas in Mumbai have seen an increase in the number of cases. Wards like G-North, which include Dadar, Mahim, and Dharavi witnessed the highest number of patients with 1868 cases on May 18, 2020, with a doubling rate of 12 days. 

Cases in Byculla and Andheri observed a doubling rate of 18 days and the same in  Matunga has reduced to 16 days. Localities like Marine Lines (188 ), Malad (414 cases), Colaba (560 cases), Kurla (1319 cases) and Matunga (1643 cases) has witnessed a reduced doubling rate to 12 days. While Bandra (440 cases), Chembur (664 cases) and Andheri East (1003 cases), the rate was at 13 days.

Areas like Bandra-Kurla Complex, Kalanagar, Nirmalnagar, Behrampada in Ward H-East had 1,138 patients, of which 600 corona patients increased over the last 10 days.
