In a welcoming news, Mumbai, on Sunday, March 6, reported less than 50 new coronavirus cases for the first time ever since the pandemic began in the city. Mumbai reported 46 cases with 0.2% positivity rate, which is lowest since March 2020, data revealed by the civic body stated.

Announcing this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) tweeted, “A day to mark and a mark to not cross! Let’s hang in there Mumbai, till that mark hits a zero.”

However, on the same day, Mumbai saw only 1 death, breaking the chain of recording zero COVID-related deaths for the nine consecutive days. The patient had co-morbidities and was above 60 years of age.

Of the 46 new cases, 41 are asymptomatic, with just one patient requiring oxygen support, he pointed out. Moreover, total number of cases reported in the Mumbai Metropolitan region (MMR) were 81.

Besides, Maharashtra also recorded its lowest single-day tally of COVID-19 cases since April 2020 yesterday with 362 new positive reports. The state added three fatalities, taking the overall death toll to 143,740.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra health department officials said that Maharashtra would see fewer and fewer cases in the coming weeks. The third wave is almost gone now; over the next few weeks, the state will see scattered cases. The deaths reported too, have reduced considerably over the last some weeks, an official said.

Further, of the total cases reported, 61 patients were found to be infected with of Omicron variant of coronavirus, taking the total tally to 5,726 across the state. Out of these, 4,733 have been discharged following a negative RT-PCR test.

Of the new cases reported on Sunday, 44 were from Pune city, eight from Pimpri Chinchwad, and nine from Pune rural, the data from the health department said. No new cases of this new variant were reported in Mumbai yesterday.
