With the city of Mumbai reporting cases of H1N1 or Swine Flu amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, health experts have been urging people to test themselves for the Swine Flu if the patient does not respond to the treatment for the coronavirus.

Moreover, cases of H1N1 have been widely clocked in the island city in the last few years. Mumbai had reported 44 cases last year and 451 cases and 5 deaths due to H1N1 in 2019.

The team of Mumbai Live contacted Dr Vasant Nagvekar, Senior Consultant at Global Hospitals in Parel, Mumbai to speak about the same. When asked about how many cases of H1N1, H3N2 and RAC have been witnessed amidst the pandemic, Nagvekar stated, “In the past one month, we have seen 7 to 8 cases,” When asked if any person was showing the symptoms for the state after taking a vaccine for COVID-19, he added, “Two patients showed symptoms after taking the vaccine so far,”

In recent developments, doctors have cautioned the citizens against H1N1, especially since both H1N1 and coronavirus have similar symptoms. The H1N1 flu, commonly known as swine flu, is primarily caused by the H1N1 strain of the flu (influenza) virus. H1N1 is a type of influenza A virus, and H1N1 is one of the flu virus strains that can cause seasonal flu. Symptoms of the H1N1 flu are the same as those of the seasonal flu.

According to reports, infectious disease expert Dr Vasant Nagvekar recently treated two patients who presented with cold, fever and headache. However, the warning trigger point happened to be when a 30-year-old patient who had earlier recovered from COVID-19 also tested positive for the coronavirus.
