Mumbai is witnessing a concerning rise in kidney stone cases among the younger population, with doctors attributing the trend largely to modern lifestyle habits. Once considered a condition affecting older adults, kidney stones are now increasingly being diagnosed in individuals in their 20s and 30s.

Health experts say inadequate water intake is one of the leading causes, as hectic routines often result in dehydration, creating conditions for stone formation. Additionally, the growing consumption of processed foods, high salt intake, junk food, and sugary beverages has further contributed to the problem.

Medical professionals also highlight that a sedentary lifestyle, marked by long hours of sitting and lack of physical activity, is playing a significant role. In some cases, improper use of dietary supplements may also increase the risk.

Common symptoms include severe pain in the abdomen or lower back, discomfort during urination, and blood in the urine. Doctors advise that maintaining proper hydration, following a balanced diet, reducing salt intake, and staying physically active are key preventive measures.
