Pune district records highest active cases, total tally crosses 4.43 lakh

3,574 new COVID-19 cases were found in Pune district taking the caseload up to 4,43,822 while 1,577 people have completely recovered and discharged from the hospital.

Pune district reported 3,574 new COVID-19 cases, 1,577 recoveries and 12 deaths on Tuesday, March 16, taking the total number of cases up to 4,43,822. At present, there are 24,204 active cases while 4,10,347 patients have recovered so far. The death toll in Pune is at 9,440.

The areas under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reported 1,925 new COVID-19 cases, 677 recoveries and seven deaths taking the tally up to 2,21,210. There are 13,225 active cases while 2,03,016 patients have recovered and discharged from the hospital. The death toll is at 4,969.

The neighbouring twin-city of Pimpri Chinchwad reported 894 COVID-19 cases which took the tally up to 1,06,964. While four people have lost their lives, the death toll is at 1,825. Moreover, there are 1,06,964 cases in rural and cantonment areas.

As the number of cases is on a rise, there are rumours regarding a lockdown being imposed soon. Commenting to ANI on this, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said, that there is no plan to impose a complete lockdown in the city. He also said that the city has ramped up its screening and testing to contain the fresh surge.

On Tuesday, March 16, Maharashtra recorded 17,864 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 23,47,328. Currently, there are 1,38,813 active cases in the state. With 9,510 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 21,54,253.

More than 87 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,996. While 6,52,531 persons are under home quarantine, 6,067 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 91.77 per cent, and 2.26 per cent respectively.
