Ever since the pandemic started, the civic bodies are trying hard to curtail the spread and break the chain. However, the number of cases are again on a rise. In the month of September alone, Maharashtra has added 4 lakh more coronavirus cases. Mumbai too has been seeing an increasing number of cases. 

In the past 34 days, that is from August 15 to September 18, the number of sealed buildings/floors in Mumbai has increased by 86 per cent. Furthermore, the Covid-19 cases on such premises increased by 85 per cent during the same period. It is worth point out that during this time there has been only a slight change in the number of containment zones in slums and chawls.

On Sunday, Mumbai also accomplished another landmark by conducting over 10 lakh coronavirus tests. These tests have been done in the span of eight months.

On September 20, Maharashtra reported 20,598 cases of COVID-19, taking the tally of cases to 12,08,642. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed 5,209 new cases and 99 deaths on Sunday. Additional Municipal Commissioner of the BMC, Suresh Kakani said, “This is why we are pushing for the ‘My Family My Responsibility’ campaign, where health workers are carrying out door-to-door screening.

As per the data released on Sunday, there was one death roughly every 3.16 minutes and 858 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

Mumbai on the other hand, reported 2,236 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the total tally to 1,84,313. Dharavi which was once a hotspot area too posted 15 fresh cases of coronavirus and the total tally of this slum area has now reached 3,033.
