Several reports have indicated that there happens to be a shortage of Remdesivir injections across Maharashtra. Responding to the same, Navi Mumbai’s civic body, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stated that several of these injections are being misused by many hospitals across the area.

According to sources, the demand, distribution and use of Remdesivir have been fixed by the Thane District Collectorate and the necessary supply of injections is being provided through them. In a special order, NMMC Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar has directed the hospitals to follow the guidelines provided by the Maharashtra State Task Force and ICMR to make the injections available through the Collectorate and use it for the patients who need them.

Moreover, as complaints of misuse of Remdesivir by some hospitals are being received through various channels, the commissioner has set up a special task force under the control of Deputy Commissioner level officers in order to prevent and control the misuse of Remdesivir.

In addition, this brigade is to visit the hospitals as per the complaint received or as per the schedule and check whether the stock and use of the injections supplied to the hospital are in harmony. This will ensure that the Remdesivir is used only for the requested patient. It will also check whether the name of the patient for whom it has been used is written on the empty bottle. Furthermore, the injection caps used by these hospitals are to be preserved and will also be verified.
