In recent developments, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has informed that in the midst of the pandemic, the people will have to continue wearing face masks for at least the next six months to stay protected from the coronavirus.

Moreover, he stated that people should follow the norms in order to avoid the imposition of restrictions like the night curfew and lockdown further urging them to learn from the United Kingdom and European countries where lockdown has been re-imposed to contain the spread of the contagious disease.

The CM further added that even though experts are in favour of imposing the night curfew or a subsequent lockdown, he himself is not in favour of these stringent steps. Furthermore, Thackeray stated that the situation with regards to COVID-19 in the state is under control, however, not completely which is why the people should be cautious.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, December 19, Maharashtra recorded 3,970 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 1,892,707. Moreover, the state reported 74 deaths which took the toll to 48,648. On the other hand, currently, the case fatality rate in the state is 2.57 per cent whereas the recovery rate in the state is 94.14 per cent. Maharashtra presently has 61,095 active Covid-19 cases. Of the 74 deaths, 33 were in the past 48 hours, 15 were in the past week and 26 were in the period before last week.

According to the daily analysis of the cases by Maharashtra’s Medical Education and Drugs Department as of Saturday, the state has the highest number of cumulative COVID-19 cases in the country.
