Maharashtra is one of the most impacted states in the country. Every district in the state is fighting hard to make sure that they are able to keep the numbers in check. KDMC area is no different. In the last 24 hours, there have been 49 new cases COVID-19 positive cases reported from KDMC and two people succumbed to the disease. With this the total number of cases in the Kalyan Dombivli reached 642 and the death toll stands at 17.

We recently connected with Dr. Pratibha Panpatil, Epidemic Medical Officer-in-charge, Kalyan Health Department Headquarters to understand the measures taken in the area,

Regarding the plans to contain the spread of the virus in the area, she mentioned that they are actively tracking cases in slums. “Right now we have only one patient that is in a slum but actually that patient does not belong to our area. He is an acquired patient for us from Mumbai and we are making sure that he is getting proper treatment. We have also done a contact tracing for the patient and keeping the situation in check. Apart from this, as a part of our efforts to ensure the virus does not spread any further, we are doing active survey of slums. So far 52 slums have been surveyed and we have visited 28,780 households. To put things in perspective, we have about 1,15,905 people living in slums in our area.”

She also mentioned that there are any AMC patients or high-risk patients that are found with symptoms, then a swab test is done for them and in case the same come positive for coronavirus, the person is sent to their COVID-19 facility.

There are currently 112 active containment zones in Kalyan Dombivli Municipal area. The list for containment zones is revised every day.

We asked if the KDMC was following the same guidelines in regard to the sealing of buildings. To which, Dr Prathibha replied, “We are not following the same diktat as the BMC. We have a restricted containment zone. Earlier we had decided half a km as the maximum area for the containment zone but we are now revising that also. We are now planning the containment zones on the patient to patient cases”. She mentioned the need for the change in the norms was because there had been a couple of doctors that had recently tested positive in the area.

BMC has revised the norms for sealing building in Mumbai on Monday. As per the new norms they will no longer be sealing the building but only the floor on which the infected person is found.
