With Cyclone Tauktae causing severe damage across the state of Maharashtra, three COVID-19 centres in Mumbai has been hit by the cyclone.

Therefore, these COVID-19 centres run by the Brihanmmbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), are to remain closed till June 1 for repairs. According to sources, these COVID-19 centres are at BKC, Mulund and Dahisar.

Moreover, as many as 500 patients at the centre were evacuated before the cyclone approached the Mumbai coast. The BMC further stated that the decision to close the centre has been taken in order to conduct repair works, and prevent any negative impact on the centre.

On the other hand, a COVID-19 hospital will be set up in Ambernath for children in order to tackle the impending third wave of the coronavirus, which poses a greater risk for young children.

In addition, the Ambernath Municipality has decided to set up a 250-bed children's hospital at the competitive examination centre in the eastern part of Ambernath. The municipality has also started preparations for the same. In addition, the process of procuring the equipment required for the construction of the hospital has started.

Reports state that the hospital will be set up in a month. Meanwhile, the centre will house children from infants to 16 years. Also, there will be two groups from newborn to age 5 and 6-16. Meanwhile, the hospital will have 50 beds reserved for the intensive care unit. Of these, 40 beds will be reserved for the age group of 6-16 years and 10 beds will be reserved for the children in the age group of 5 years.
