According to reports, the Thane Zilla Parishad has organised a special vaccination drive for women on Monday, August 23 from 11 am to 4 pm.
This step comes in order to encourage more and more women to come forward for inoculation.
However, it has come to light that the Thane municipal corporation (TMC) will be organising a special walk-in vaccination drive on the fourth week of every month only for women.
TMC and Naresh Mhaske, Mayor of Thane, have decided to start a walk-in vaccination drive from August 23, Monday, which is the first day of the fourth week of this month.
The authorities claim such walk-in vaccination drives for women will increase the vaccination number of women in Thane.
The civil hospital officers and Thane Zilla Parishad had organised a special vaccination drive on the occasion of Rakshabandhan on Sunday, August 22, from 11 am till 4 pm.
Around 550 women, all above the age of 18 were inoculated, reports stated.
After observing the lack of participation from women in the district, we decided to hold a special drive for them. Women are 45 per cent behind men in getting vaccinated, district medical officer Manish Reghe was quoted by HT.
The TMC to date has administered around 9 lakhs of vaccination jabs to citizens across Thane city limits. Of the total, 4, 77,550 are men and 4,23,488 are women including 160 pregnant and five physically challenged women are inoculated.
