Treating and rehabilitating special children is challenging. But the initial treatment and rehabilitation centre started by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Nair Hospital is better than the centres in private hospitals. Since there are children with special needs across the state, efforts will be made to start such centres in Thane and other districts like Mumbai for their treatment, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the initial treatment and rehabilitation centres at Nair Hospital. “400 to 500 children are receiving treatment in this centre. Every parent cares about children with special needs. They need special attention. Treatment and rehabilitation of these children cost a lot of money. But now parents don't have to worry about money anymore. The government has taken responsibility for the treatment of these children”, said Shinde. He said that they will be treated free of cost in the municipal hospital.

He said that this initiative undertaken by BMC for children with special needs is commendable and we will try to implement it in other districts of the state including Thane. Treating special children, teaching them, mainstreaming them with physiotherapy is very challenging.

Order to set up two more centres in Mumbai

Two more such up-to-date and well-equipped centres should be set up in Mumbai so that more and more such children can get treatment, instructed Chief Minister Shinde.
