So far 21 patients of the new subtype of Omicron 'JN1' have been found in India, 19 in Goa and one each in Maharashtra and Kerala. Although the World Health Organization has said that the JN1 virus is not dangerous, on the instructions of the central government, the state health department has conducted a mock drill on corona in health department hospitals. However, doctors are facing the challenge of dealing with corona virus in the background of lack of corona tests and flu epidemic.

The World Health Organization as well as the experts have already explained that we will have to live with Corona in the future as well. Accordingly, different subtypes of coronavirus will continue to emerge and we will have to face it. At the time of Omicron, there was a warning of caution, but since it was a mild form of the virus, it did not cause much harm to patients. Now, though a new subtype of Omicron virus, JN1, has been detected in India, experts say that it is of a milder type. However, as there is still no definite information about how fast it can spread, the central government has alerted all the states. According to this, the health department has prioritised conducting covid tests.

Till Wednesday, 530 tests have been conducted, out of which 380 rapid tests have been conducted and 172 RT PCR tests have been conducted. The Health Department has about three and a half lakh RT PCR kits. Also there are about 17 Rapid Antigen Kits. Sources in the health department said that the health system conducted a mock drill in all the districts on December 17 and reviewed all the necessary things from the available oxygen.

However, according to private sector doctors, it is a challenge to treat such suspected patients against the backdrop of lack of corona testing facilities and flu epidemic in urban areas. Patients have to be treated using the experience of the Corona period and the health department has also given instructions to competently survey the patients with diseases like influenza and acute respiratory diseases. Also, it has been asked to conduct a corona test of the patients found in this survey.

According to Epidemiologist Dr.Parag Deshpande, if the patient's oxygen level is low, lung problems and flu-like fever are observed, the concerned patient can be treated as a corona patient. But since there are mild symptoms, there is no reason to panic about this new virus, Dr. Deshpande said.

According to Dr. Neeta Singhi from Kandivali, currently flu patients are being found in large numbers and the fever of the patients seems to be staying for a long time i.e. six to seven days. Some patients have fever for up to ten days and it takes three weeks for the patient to recover. It takes time to heal, especially in children. Even though the incidence of frequent infections is increasing due to bad weather, very few of them end up being admitted to the hospital, Dr. Neeta said.

Based on the experience of the corona era, it helps in treating the patients who are admitted due to flu. In this, the patient's oxygen level, lung capacity and fever symptoms are treated in the first stage. Also, doctors say that even though the patients are diagnosed by covid testing, the rising corona is a challenge for the private sector doctors.
